Generalities:

Streptococcus pn. when infecting the chest can cause multiple respiratory disorders such as pneumonia, sinusitis . When located in other places such as the abdomen could cause peritoniti. In immunosuppressed people, it can be complicated by severe cases of meningitis or sepsis.

Streptococcus pneumoniae is a gram positive bacterium of the pneumococcus family, is grouped in diplococci and rarely forms chains. It is usually found in the nasopharynx, almost exclusively infecting humans. The fact that symptoms or even complications may appear is mainly due to the variety of strains and the condition of the person's immune system.

Transmission:

By small drops of saliva; direct contact or closeness to the patient.
