Also known as Herpes Zoster  is a reactivation of the varicella zoster virus. Like other types of herpes, herpes 1 remains inactive in the nervous system in many humans. There is only one type of this virus and the human is its only host. Stress or a depressed immune system can activate this virus triggering the symptoms.

The form of infection is similar to that of chickenpox . A person who contracts it first may develop the symptoms of chickenpox.
