Micrococcus is a genus of bacteria of the phylum Actinobacteria. They are found in diverse environments, including water and air. They are Gram-positive bacteria with spherical cells between 5.0 and 20 micrometers that typically appear in tetrads. Micrococcus has a thin cell wall.
These bacteria have been isolated from human skin, dairy and animal products, beer, etc. They are also found in many other environments, including water and soil. Micrococcus T. lives on human skin and transforms sweat into unpleasant-smelling compounds. It is a family of opportunistic bacteria.
