Generalities:

Mythomania, also known as pathological lie or fantastic pseudology.

The mythomaniac people suffer from a compulsion that inclines them to constantly make up fantastical or simply false stories. While it is known that we all often lie "little lies", mythomaniacs can not stop lying. It is not psychotic suffering from delusions or hallucinations, since they are fully aware of the falsity of their speeches, however they will hardly accept that they lie.

Many of these stories are quite logical and are mostly based on real events only exaggerated or altered in some way. The mythomaniac seldom seek to take advantage of their false stories, but in many cases they use them to look more affluent, intrepid, altruistic, intellectual, interesting ... or in some way draw attention.

What is behind mythomania?

Mythomania is usually accompanied by some other personality disorder, which can range from low self esteem and need for acceptance to dissociated personality.

The mythomaniac can feel more intelligent and with some power by deceiving others. Also, deep down, there may be a great rejection of himself or of some family circumstance or of his childhood, a situation that he seeks to hide with a veil of fantasies and lies.

Some studies suggest that the mythomaniac brain has 26% more white matter in the prefrontal lobe, which gives them greater ability to associate ideas.

Consequences:

Like all obsessive-compulsive disorders, mitomania can severely affect a person's life in different facets: family, couple, social integration, to labor and legal conflicts

Besides biomagnetism, psychotherapy is the best treatment.
