Photophobia

Type: Multiple Causes

Generalities:

Photophobia is intolerance or hypersensitivity to light. It can be due to multiple causes such as:

  • Uveitis or irits (inflammation)
  • Burns in the eyes
  • Corneal damage: abrasion, ulcer
  • Damage from the use of contact lenses
  • Retinal detachment
  • Meningitis
  • Migraine
  • Eye exam with dilated eye
  • Ocular disorder with inflammation, infection ...
  • Abuse of drugs such as cocaine, heroin, amphetamines, atropine, etc.

Treatment:

Photophobia is not a disease, but a symptom, to treat it you must identify the underlying cause, whether infection, damage, abuse of drugs and so on, or any other. It is recommended to start with the pairs associated with eye disorders, but it can be any other, for example: the rabies virus.
